Being in a car accident is very scary and worrisome when it is your own car that you have damaged. When it is your work vehicle, those worries can easily double and overwhelm you. Now you have to worry about your position at work and your reputation. The best thing to do is not to panic. There are a few things that you must do immediately following a company car accident.
Immediately notify the police and other appropriate emergency personnel. When you have been involved in a collision, you must contact the appropriate authorities. An incident report needs to be created by the police. If you know that there are witnesses to the accident, make sure that they stick around until the police arrive. You will want them to tell the police exactly what happened, especially if the accident was not your fault.
Exchange the appropriate information with the other driver.Find out who the driver is and who his or her insurance company is. Write down any detail you can think of, such as who was in the other driver’s car at the time of the accident, what type of car was involved in the accident, how the car was placed after the accident. These details may become important later on.
Inform your workplace that you have been in an accident.Call an appropriate contact person as soon as you can to let them know that the vehicle you have been driving has been damaged. You will also want them to know that you have been injured, if applicable. If you are unsure of what to do next, ask the person you contacted. He or she should be able to direct you in your next course of actions.
Follow his or her policies to the letter. If he or she wants you to have the vehicle towed to a specific spot by a specific company, then make sure that those orders are carried out. You do not want to cause any more problems with your superiors or your company by making a mess of the situation. Act as responsibly as you can. If you are unable to follow certain orders because of an injury or other reason, ask for alternative ways to handle the situation or ask for help.
Make sure you see a doctor even if you do not feel injured.Your workplace may insist that you be medically evaluated after an accident, even if you feel fine. Even if your workplace does not insist on this type of action, you need to be evaluated. Sometimes injuries appear after an accident. If you did not document that you were injured as a direct result of the accident, you may miss out on the payment of medical bills or other compensation later on.
Cooperate with your workplace’s insurance company. The company may need to reach you after the accident to discuss what happened. Fully cooperate and be honest about the situation. The company will do its best to help you and your workplace get through the situation as smoothly as possible. Do not talk to the other person’s insurance company without at first discussing it with your superiors and your company’s insurance providers.
Work very hard to prove to your workplace that you can be trusted with their vehicles. After the incident has been cleared up, you need to prove that you can drive without issue. If you are granted permission to drive a company car again, you must take the privilege very seriously and drive as carefully as possible. You may not get another opportunity to prove that you can be trusted with your company’s property again, especially if you were at fault for the original accident.
